Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Siemens has announced that it is to cut 6.800 jobs worldwide by selling its telecom unit Siemens Enterprise Networks (SEN), which lost 10 % of its sales in 2007. On 26 Febuary the company confirmed its plans of massive job cuts to make SEN more attractive to buyers. The company said that it has been searching for a potential buyer for more than a year now. The job cuts will affect about 40% of the totoal workforce of Siemens Enterprise Networks. The company said that in Germany, 2.000 jobs will be cut and 1.200 jobs will be relocated to other units owned by Siemens or its company partners. As of March 2008, there is no information on the locations (neither globally not in Germany) affected by the restructuring and when the job cuts will be implemented.
