Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Capgemini, the technology consultancy firm, has confirmed that it intends to make up to 450 UK job cuts across 4 of its offices. The cuts will include the closure of an office in Basingstoke, Hampshire with the loss of 95 jobs, up to 300 posts will be lost at Telford, 44 at Newcastle and 20-30 in Worthing. The company had identified that the reduction in a contract with HM Revenue and Customs may mean up to 600 redundancies, but has so far only announced 450. The Public and Commercial Service Union (PCS) which represents staff at the sites have announced that they are trying to further reduce the number of job cuts.
