Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Eaga, a firm that operates in the energy efficiency sector, has announced that it is to create 350 jobs at its site in Newcastle. Eaga provides specialist consumer advice to customers of energy firms. The announcement of the job creation follows the firm winning a contract with BBC, the UK public broadcaster, to provide consumer advice on converting to digital television. Eaga employs 3,000 in the UK and in other global locations. As of February 2008 there is no information on the number employed at Eaga’s Newcastle site or the date by which the new jobs will be created.
