Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Polaroid announced on 11 February 2008 that it is to cut 185 jobs with the closure of its factory for polaroid direct-ready films in Enschede. the reason for the closure is attributed to the emergence of digital photography. The facility is expected to close in July 2008. As of February 2008, there is no information on when the job losses are to be implemented.
30 of the 185 employees made redundant will be offered new positions in a distribution centre, which will be established around the same date of the closure of the facility in Enschede. The unions and the works council are said to be satisfied with the social plan.
