Bausch & Lomb, contact lens manufacturer, has announced that it is to cut 250 jobs at its West Lothian site. The redundancies relate to the company ceasing to make its SoftLens One Day contact lenses in 2008, replacing them with SoftLens Daily Disposable contact lens which will be produced at the site. The company says that the action is necessary to ensure its long term health and growth, but that it regrets the job losses which will be negotiated with its recognised trade union, Unite.
