Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
A fish processing factory in Glyngøre (DK) owned by Royal Greenland A/S announced 7 January 2008 that 115 jobs in fillet production will be offshored to Koszalin in Poland.
Management have indicated that the reason for the redundancies in Glyngøre is to move part of the production to a low wage country with the aim of increasing competitiveness. The management, however, hopes in a medium-long term perspective to increase the production left in Glyngøre. Most of the redundant persons are women over 45 years of age. The local jobcentre in Skive has requested extra funding from the Ministry of Employment in order to re-employ the women. The extra funding will be used to fund continuing vocational training and upskilling.
