Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
State-owned woodpocessing company Setra closes down its sawmill in Seskarö. This closure follows the general trend in the region (For pulp and paper industries see e.g. 10320 and 10528) following a shortage of raw material in northern Sweden and a general downturn in the business cycle. Employees were given advance notifications on a number of sites in the end of 2007. In Seskarö approximately 60 employees will have to leave, but 20 of those will be rehired at the site in Rolfs. At Malå sawmill around 20 employees have been given advance notifications. In Malå some 10 employees have been give advance notifications. In Kvarnåsen 13 employees have been given advance notifications. Overall around 100 employees are at risk loosing their jobs. The sites are geographically scattered.
