České Dráhy (Czech Railways), the largest state-owned company and the biggest Czech employer, is to cut approximately 4,000 jobs by the end of 2009. The government has approved a social plan allocating 684 million CZK to compensate for the expected redundancies. The company currently employs about 53,000 people.
