Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Wood Group, an international energy services company, has announced that it is to close its plant producing repairs to gas turbines in Baldovie (Dundee) with a loss of approximately 150 jobs. However, the exact number of job cuts has not been confirmed yet. The plant currently employs 159 people.
The company announced that its decision to close the plant was in light of high levels of international competition, the strong pound and a decline in work. A 90 day consultation is under way with staff at the facility and the company has promised to try to minimise compulsory redundancies.
