Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
NCC, a company in building and civil engineering construction, has announced the discontinuation of the NCC Komplett project affecting 200 employees working in the production site in Hallstahammar and the head office in Solna. Approximately 100 employees will lose their job (mainly those who work in the factory in Hallstahammar) by May 2008 and another 100 are likely to be offered new positions in the company. The employees who will become redundant will be helped to find a new job through external measures.
The aim of NCC Komplett was to produce prefabricated building parts to speed up the building process and reduce construction costs. The project is terminated because the expected cost reductions based on this production method were not achieved. Initiated in 2002, the project costed about SEK 1 billion.
