Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Shorts Bombardier, a Canadian owned multi-national group that manufactures aeroplanes, has announced that it is to create 330 new jobs at its Belfast plant. A spokesman for the firm stated that production was to increase on the parts manufactured for the CRJ 700 and 900 jets after a recent increase in demand for the models. The new jobs will be a mixture of temporary and permanent posts. Shorts Bombardier employs approximately 4,700 at its Belfast plant. As of November 2007, there is no information on when the new jobs are to be created. Shorts Bombardier cut 645 jobs at its Belfast plant in 2006.
