Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hyza, a Slovakian firm, has announced that its subsidiary Hydinársky závod in Cifer will close with the loss of 230 jobs. The site in Cifer processes poultry meat, and will be closed by the end of 2007. A spokesman for Agrofert Holding, the owner of Hyza, stated that the restructuring of the firm was vital to increase the efficiency of the group's poultry operations in Slovakia. The Cifer plant achieved financial losses in 2006, and the concentration of production to the firm's main site in Topolčany will be a further aim of the restructuring. 10 employees are to continue working at the Cifer site. As of November 2007, there is no information on the period for which these employees will continue working at the plant.
