Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Safosa, an Italian group, has announced that it is to create 150 to 200 new jobs in Levice with the development of a new site. The ‘Signal’ tooth paste brand will be produced at the new site, and production at the new site will commence in January 2008. The announcement of the creation of the new jobs follows Safosa announcing that it was to ‘offshore’ the production of its toothpaste from Italy to Slovakia. Approximately 80-90 per cent of the output of the new plant will be sold to the multi-national group Unilever. Peter Freunscht, the Chairman of the Research and Development Department of Unilever, has stated the output of the Levice plant will supply approximately 50 per cent of the total volume of the Signal brand sold by Unilever in Europe.
