Description

Stora Enso, a multi-national firm that produces pulp and paper, has announced that it is to cut 425 jobs in Sweden. 325 jobs will be lost at the firm’s papermill in Norrsundet, whilst an additional 100 jobs in administrative and research roles will also be lost at sites in Stockholm and Falun. The restructuring in Sweden is part of a wider process, and the firm is cutting a total of 1,700 jobs in Europe. The firm attributes the restructuring to increases in the price of wood and the possibility of increased Russian export tariffs. The job losses are due to be implemented between October 2007 and May 2009. As of October 2007, there is no information on how many are employed at the firm's three Swedish sites.
