Mostecká uhelná – Kohinoor, a Czech coal mining company, has announced the closure of its site in Litvínov with the loss of approximately 388 jobs. The site is named ‘Centrum’, and is the firm’s last deep brown coalmine. The first phase of the restructuring process will be carried out by the end of 2007, when 70-80 of the site’s employees will receive retirement packages. The whole of the restructuring process is due to be completed by the end of March 2009. The process will be carried out with the cooperation and assistance of trade unions and the Czech labour office in order to ensure a suitable level of support is given to those workers affected by the restructuring.
