Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Atria, a Finnish grocery firm, has announced that it is to cut 100 jobs in Sweden at its subsidiary Sardus. Sardus produces sandwiches and salads, and was acquired by Atria in April 2007. Atria produces a similar range of products to Sardus, and management at the firm have made the decision that the rationalization of sandwich and salad production in Sweden to an unit in Norrköping would lead to financial savings. The job losses will affect the Sardus units in Norrköping, Halmstad and Stockholm. Sardus currently employs 270 in Sweden. The job losses will be implemented by the end of February 2008.
