Description
UWV, the Dutch social security provider, and CWI, the Dutch public employment service, are to merge with the result that 1,500 jobs will be lost. The merger is due to go ahead in January 2009, and the jobs are due to be implemented between 2009 and 2012. The two organizations employ a total of 21,000 in the Netherlands, and as of October 2007 it is unclear whether any direct dismissals will be made. The merger, announced on October 19th 2007 by the Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, is a result of the Dutch Government’s wish to integrate social benefits and employment services into one organization.
