Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lloyds TSB, the British financial services group, has announced the creation of 150 new jobs at the firm’s call centre in Glasgow. The firm currently employs approximately 1,000 at its Glasgow site. Sally Jones-Evans, the managing director of the firm’s telephone banking division, stated that the new jobs would involve a range of full time and part-time roles. A spokeswoman for the bank also stated that one of the reasons for the job creation was that the bank was expecting an increase in the volume of customer calls due to the coming of the Christmas holiday and changes to customer overdrafts recently implemented by the bank. As of October 2007, there is no information on when the new jobs will be created by.
