Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tobermore, a firm that produces concrete products, is to create 100 new jobs with the development of a new site in Londonderry. The new factory will produce paving stones and bricks for use in landscaping, and will involve an investment of 10 million GBP. Managing Director David Henderson said that the firm had benefited from the recent boom in the UK construction sector. He stated:
‘Our sales have doubled in the last three years… For about seven years in a row now our sales have been rising by 25 to 30 per cent a year which is a phenomenal level of growth to sustain.’
As of October 2007, there is no further information on when production at the new site will commence.
