Description

Tyco Electronics, a firm that manufactures electronic components, is to close its Shannon plant with the loss of 178 jobs. Production at the Shannon site is to be ‘offshored’ to the firm’s plants in India, China and Mexico, and the firm will cease all activity within Ireland. In a press release, the firm stated that the decision was ‘based upon a strategic analysis of the company's manufacturing resources and a bid to improve efficiencies’. The firm also stated that the first redundancies will take place in early 2008, and that the ‘offshoring’ of activities at the Shannon site will be completed by September 2009.
