Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Schefenacker Vision Systems, a German group that produces lighting equipment for automobiles, is to create 450 new jobs at its existing site in Prebold. 45 are currently employed at the Prebold plant, which is operated by Schefenacker SAPS, a daughter company of Schefenacker Vision Systems. The job creation at the Prebold site follows a decision by the group to cut 500 jobs at a German site. The group has operated a strategy of ‘offshoring’ for a number of years, and has also re-located labour-intensive operations to Serbia, where wages are lower than in Slovenia. It is expected that the new jobs at the Prebold plant will be created in the first quarter of 2008.
