Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In June 2008, Hellermann Tytonhas, a hi-tech cable manufacturing firm based in Pennycross, confirmed the loss of 100 jobs due to increasing low-price competition from countries like China and India. In an earlier announcement, the company said that it would look for voluntary redundancies and help workers find alternative employment where necessary.
The firm, which has been based in Plymouth since 1978, manufactures cable management products at Pennycross Close.
