Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Domo, a firm that manufactures carpets and rugs, is to cut between 150 and 215 jobs at its sites in Sint-Niklaas, Gent, and Oudernaarde in the North-West of Belgium. It is uncertain exactly how many jobs will be lost but the cuts will affect staff at all three sites. None of the plants will close however, and company management have stated that the figure is still negotiable. Management have attributed the decision to a decline in the demand for carpets and rugs in Western Europe. It is likely that the job losses will be implemented by the end of 2007.
