Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Unilever, a multi-national group that produces a range of domestic, hygiene, and food products, is to cut 20,000 jobs worldwide. 12,000 of these job losses are to based in Europe, and the group is to close 50 of the 300 plants it operates in Europe. The plan set out by the group covers from October 2007 to October 2010. In late July 2007, the group is due to meet trade unions in order to discuss the social consequences of the restructuring. Unilever employs 179,000 in 100 countries worldwide. Within Europe, it employs approximately 44,000.
