Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Vattenfall Eldistribution, a firm that distributes and sells electricity and is a part of the Vattenfall group, is to close 24 offices across Sweden with the loss of 216 jobs. The services offered by the sites affected by the closure are to be moved to Stockholm, and all affected employees are to be offered the opportunity to move to Stockholm. Several trade unions have criticized the relocation plan. The firm's original plan was to implement 350 job losses but trade union opposition had the effect of reducing this number to 216. The scheduled job losses will be implemented by the end of 2007. Vattenfall Eldistribution employs 800 in Sweden.
