Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Euroscript, a firm based in Betrange that engages in pre-printing activities, has announced that 120 employees are to be made redundant. The redundancies follow the loss of a major contract with the European Commission’s Office for Official Publications of the European Communities in June 2007. The contract, that involved keyboard processing and corrections to the Office’s documentary output, was awarded to a French firm who made a more competitive offer. The Luxembourg Ministry of Labour explored the possibility of transferring 70 employees to the French firm. This, however, failed to materialize. The trade union OGB-L has condemned the job losses, and has attempted to implement a social plan for the employees affected.
