Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Wellmann KG, a firm that manufactures furniture for kitchens, is to cut 400 jobs in Enger. The site in Enger employs 700, and the job losses will be implemented by the end of 2007. The job losses are part of a general restructuring operation at Wellmann’s parent company Alno, who are seeking to improve their profitability after losing 15.7 million EUR in 2006. Employees affected by the restructuring may be offered jobs at other Alno affiliates, and a scheme to help employees find new work may also be offered by the firm.
