Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In August 2007, Grampian Country Food Group announced the loss of 140 job with the closure of the chicken factory in Banff. Although the company hoped to keep compulsory redundancies to a minimum, the chicken factory closed for business in November 2007 with the loss of all 140 jobs. According to the company, a key reason for the decision to close the site was the fact that expansion and modernisation were not possible due to insufficient space on site.
