The US manufacturer of semi-conductors Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) operates a plant that produces chips in Dresden in Saxony. The German government had planned to subsidise the extension of this plant. On 19 July 2007, Neelie Kroes in her position as European Commissioner of Competition approved of AMD’s and the German Federal Government’s investment plan. The extension of the plant will lead to the creation of 565 new jobs in Dresden.
