Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 28 June 2007 it was announced that The Centre for Work and Income (CWI, the public employment service) concluded a deal with Jumbo Supermarkten (supermarkets) to rapidly fill 1,200 vacancies. Jumbo employs 12,500 employees in the Netherlands. As of August 2007 the CWI will bring all its 130 offices into action in order to find the prospective employees. Jumbo will present all its vacancies to the CWI and offer employment to job-seekers that have difficulties fiding employment. In particular the store chain will offer opportunities to young people and women returning to work after having a family. In 2007 Jumbo Supermarkten is expecting to recruit approximately 3,000 employees following the opening up of 27 new branches. 15 of these branches have been taken over from Super de Boer, a supermarket chain. After the takeover, Jumbo is immediately doubling the number of employees in these shops.
