Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 26 April 2007, the British pharmaceutical producer AstraZeneca announced its plans to cut 1,000 jobs in Germany. The company is closing its production site in Plankstadt, where 400 people are currently employed. Another 500 to 550 jobs will be lost within its sales representatives’ department while approximately 50 jobs will be cut within its administrative units. The job cuts in Germany are a result of the worldwide restructuring programme that was announced by AstraZeneca in February 2007. AstraZeneca currently employs a workforce of 2,300 people in Germany.
