Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The French co-operative 'Système U', an association of independent supermarkets, announced on 23 April 2007 that fourteen new stores will be created in the west of France. Système U Ouest, which currently employs 6,193 people in 700 stores, will create 1,000 new jobs between May and December 2007 in its 14 new stores. The business expansion will also bring an increase of System U's sale surface to 783,100 square metres in those 347 sites in the West of France where its market share exceeds 20%. In 2006, the sales turnover of the company rose by 4%, reaching 5.7 billion Euros (except fuel/oil). In April, Système U already announced difficulties to find candidates for jobs proposed.
