Description

On April 16, 2007, Mittal Steel Poland, Poland’s largest steel producer, has launched a special employment downsizing programme, according to 650 workers are expected to leave the company by late November 2007. Mittal Steel Poland owns steel processing plants in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Sosnowiec, Świętochłowice, and Krakow. Despite the strong demand prevailing in the steel markets, the company has found it necessary to let 2,500 employees go (out of an aggregate workforce of 12,944) in order to honour its obligations under the agreement made by the Polish government and the European Commission in 2002.
