Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
500 civilian workers at a Ministry of Defence (MoD) base in Stafford will lose their jobs when a distribution centre that was part of the base shuts in December. The closure is due to the Army taking over the base from the Royal Air Force (RAF). The Army will use the base for the provision of secure communications between soldiers on the battlefield. Some workers have already had their jobs transferred to the MoD base in Donnington, Shropshire. John Wilson, of the PCS union, said its members believed the base should stay open but were resigned to it closing. They had staged an unsuccessful two-year campaign for the government to change its mind.
