Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
A software development firm is creating 170 IT jobs in Caerphilly, it has been announced on 27 March. Valtech provides consultancy and training to industry including aerospace, finance and media. The French company already has offices in London and Manchester and said it expects to expand further in the UK.
The development of the new centre, which will open in May, has been supported by a Welsh Assembly Government regional assistance grant. Jonathan Poole, Valtech chief executive, said Wales offered a 'skilled workforce with software development expertise'.
He said: 'We have been particularly impressed with the high academic standards in computing research and teaching at Welsh universities and the relevance of areas of their work to our own needs.'
The group, which has a 65 million GBP turnover, expects to recruit up to 40 staff in the first year and 167 within three years.
