Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Pfleiderer is a producer of engineered wood, surface finished products and laminate flooring. On 23 March 2007 the company announced its new business strategy called Business Centre Western Europe (BC West), which regards future investments of 31 million Euros between 2007 and 2009. To ensure future competitiveness, these investments are linked to a cost-saving strategy, i.e. structural and personnel costs are to be reduced. As a result of this, 130 employees will lose their jobs at its German site in Arnsberg, as it was announced on 23 March 2007. The job cuts will take place before the end of 2008. The production site in Arnsberg manufactures laminated floors. Negotiations between management and employee representatives are set for the beginning of April 2007. The company currently employs around 5,100 employees worldwide.
