European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
York Hospital is to cut 200 jobs. Health chiefs said they had been forced to make the cuts to help fill a 4 million GBP deficit in their budget. They said the jobs would go through not replacing staff who leave rather than redundancies, and said lives will not be put at risk. The hospital has not yet said which departments will be affected by the cuts over the next financial year. The cuts come on top of another 200 jobs the hospital has had to shed this year. York Hospital chief executive Jim Easton said he believed the changes would not affect the quality of care given. He said: 'I can say quite confidently that care in this hospital will continue to be good.'
'However, we need that to be as part of a whole package of services outside if we are to remain successful.'
Ray Gray of Unison said he was sceptical that staff would not be forced out of their jobs.
He said: 'It would be a surprise if all those jobs will just be from people who move on naturally, as it's a large amount.'
'It is going to be a struggle and difficult for all those involved.'
