Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The only remaining large shipyard in Denmark, Odense Steel Shipyard at Lindø, Odense, has announced the loss of 140 jobs. The reason given is the implementation of efficiency programmes within the company. All 140 are white-collar salaried employees - out of a staff of 575. The 2,600 blue-collar workers on hourly pay will not be affected by the dismissals. The management will try to find new jobs for the dismissed, possibly through a private company specialised in re-employment of employees made redundant due to restructurings.
