Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Friesland Hungary, a subsidiary of Dutch Friesland Foods, the multinational company that develops, produces and sells dairy products, fruit-based drinks and ingredients, has stopped production at its Gyöngyös unit, in Heves county. In December 2006 Friesland announced that it would concentrate its Central European dairy production in its Eastern Hungarian unit in Debrecen with delocating a part of production from Slovakia. At the same time two Hungarian units in Gyöngyös, Central Hungary, and Nagybánhegyes in Southern Hungary, were planned to be closed down, resulting in the dismissal of 154 employees. Negotiations were held with an investor who was to buy the Gyöngyös plant but negotiations failed after equipment was taken away from Gyöngyös site, announced daily Magyar Hírlap. The majority of employees, 76 people, have already received notice and the remaining 38 will stay until closure of the site.
