Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On January 2007, the top management of the Fiat group - one of the main European car manufacturers - announced that the implementation of their reorganisation plan will continue as planned in 2002. Up to now, the economic and financial results are positive, with a significant increase in terms of sales and profits. On 22 February 2007, the company and the trade unions reached a company agreement regarding the industrial plan 2007-2009 at the Cassino plant (one of the main Fiat plants in Italy). The agreement envisages an increase in production, the reorganisation of work and the creation of 950 new jobs by the end of October 2007. In particular, the company will hire 950 employees with apprenticeship contracts and fixed-term contracts.
