Description

More than 150 jobs could be lost at a factory in Devon. British Bakeries has announced plans to cease all manufacturing and support services at its site in Plymouth.

The company, which makes bread for Hovis, Mothers Pride and Nimble said the factory will be converted into a depot facility.

The Transport and General Workers' Union said it would be working with the company and other unions to save as many jobs as possible. 'Any loss of manufacturing jobs in Plymouth or the surrounding area is bad news,' spokesman Dave Springbett said.

The company said it would be a 'challenging' time for individuals currently uncertain about their future and it was committed to working with employees and their representatives.
