Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Canadian group Industries Dorel, owner of Dorel France, has specialised in articles for child welfare and the manufacturing of prams and pushchairs since 2003. On 31 January 2007, Dorel France announced the loss of 113 jobs between March and December 2007 in the company's French factory in Cholet, in the west of France. High production costs are given as the main reason for the job cuts. In the next years, the company, producer of brands such as Bébé Confort, Babidéal, Baby Relax, Maxi Cosy or Quinny, will transfer almost all of its production to Portugal and China. After discussions with the trade unions, the CEO of DOREL France announced on 25 April that there would be 109 dismissals, as opposed to the initially announced 113.
