Michelin manufactures and sells tires for all kinds of vehicles, publishes maps and guides and operates a number of digital services in more than 170 countries. It has 71 production sites in 19 countries and over 129,000 employees in the whole world.
At the beginning of January 2007, the company announced a reorganisation plan that envisages new investments in Eastern European countries and the reorganisation of industrial activities in the other areas of the world, with the dismissal of around 20,000 employees. In particular, the plan provides for a reduction of production in the industrial sites located in Western European countries, with the loss of around 10,000 jobs.
