Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Viennese construction company Ploberger&Stadler, which is specialised in the construction of facades as well as insulation and plumbing work activities, went bankrupt at the beginning of January 2007. The company employs about 225 workers in Vienna, Graz, Linz and Innsbruck. The decision was due to the firm having accumulated debts totalling around 14 million euro, which have resulted from a permanent decrease in turnover over the last years, in particular at the site in Vienna. So far, 57 employees have been dismissed; regarding the remaining employees, the statutory redundancies notification procedure has already been initiated.
