Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Japanese manufacturer of computers Toshiba is threatening to close the notebook manufacturing plant at Regensburg, Bavaria, and to cut 250 manufacturing, logistics and maintenance jobs. Research and development shall remain, according to a brief note by the company released on 18 January 2007. Currently, the plant employs a total of 400 people.
Whereas Handelsblatt gives this information as a fact, the plans are in fact preliminary, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, which notes that the works council has not yet been consulted.
