Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Photowatt, a company specialised on photovoltaics, announced on 19 January 2007 its plans to enlarge a factory called 'Photovoltaïque' in the east of France (Bourgoin Jallieu, Isère).
Photowatt currently employs 500 people at the site and will create 1,400 additional jobs between January 2008 and December 2009 in Bourgouin Jaillieu.
The company has invested more than 125 million USD since 2002 into Spheral Solar, a joint venture of Photowatt with another company, but has yet to see any revenue from the business. Spheral Solar, which employs about 90 people in Cambridge, is developing technology for flexible solar panels that may be used in places not suitable for rigid, rectangular panels.
