Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
French chemical company Arkema announced on 22 January 2007 that it has approved a reorganisation plan that regards the loss of 130 jobs between February and July 2007 in its Paris headquarters. Activity will be transferred to another district in Paris. Currently, 830 people work in the headquarters.
Additonally, Arkema will be able to go ahead with a planned investment of 20 million euro at its site in Saint-Auban, following an agreement signed last week between several companies that consume large quantities of electricity and the French electricity group Electricité de France (EDF). The agreement will guarantee the companies a price of around 37 euro per megawatt hour within contracts lasting 15 or 20 years, while the current market price of electricity is about 50 euro per megawatt hour.
