Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
By means of acquisitions in several European countries Mecom has become a leading European regional publisher with operations in Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Ukraine and Lithuania. The primary focus of Mecoms business is on regional newspapers. In addition, Mecom operates national titles and associated media in magazines, television, radio, on-line and direct marketing markets.
After several acquisitions in 2006 Mecom is restructuring its business in Europe, organised in Mecom Europe, resulting in reducing the workforce in Norway (700), Denmark (350), Poland (100) and the Netherlands (60). More job cuts may come.
New cuts have been announced several times throughout the year - in Poland on 5 November 2006 and in Norway the last 200 job cuts were announced on 20 December 2006.
The employees have established a European Works Council and asked in their meeting on 21 November 2006 for a seat at the Board of Mecom plc.
