Staff at Bournemouth Aviation Services Company Ltd (Basco), based at the town's airport, were told on Thursday morning the firm would close at midday.
The news follows a 90-day consultation period on the future of the company, which maintains commercial aircraft.
Staff working at the business for less than two years will not be entitled to any redundancy pay.
Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd, the company which owns Basco, said in a statement that the closure was not expected to have any impact on its share price.
