Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Johnson Controls, a company specialised in manufacturing of automotive interior systems such as seating systems, electronics, instrument panels, overhead systems and floor consoles, announced on 5 December 2006 that it will cut 231 jobs in its unit in Geel, Belgium. Johnson Controls currently employs 580 people in Geel. The reason for this decision is the reduction in the activity of the Volkswagen factory in Forest, the company's main client. No direct dismissals are foreseen, but rather voluntary departures.
